Al-Khor reached the round of 16 in the Emir’s Cup
Al-Khor reached the quarter-finals of the 2024 Prince’s Football Cup, defeating Lusail by two goals to one, in the match that took place today at Saud bin Abdul Rahman Stadium, as part of the preliminary stage competitions in which 8 second-class clubs participated. The goals of Al-Khor were scored by Abdulaziz Hazza and the Brazilian Lucas in the 80th and 90th + 7 minutes, while Saud Abdullah scored Lusail's only goal in the 18th minute. Al-Khor started the match perfectly, and were the better side at the beginning of the match, through continuous threat to their opponent’s goal, wasting some opportunities, most notably the one that Ali Alwan had inside the area, which he quickly shot near the post in the 16th minute. The Lusail players retreated to the back positions and relied on the rebounds that resulted in the first goal through Saud Abdullah with a header in the 18th minute, giving Lusail the advantage, threatening the Al Khor goal on more than one occasion in search of reinforcement to no avail, so the first half ended with Lusail leading by a goal without a response. Al-Khor showed a strong reaction in the second half and regained the advantage, so that the movements of the Brazilian Lucas posed an extreme danger in search of adjusting the result, while Lucail contented himself with retreating to defensive positions, relying on rebounds without posing any danger. Al-Khor achieved success in the last minutes, scoring the equalizer through Abdulaziz Hazza with a shot from outside the penalty area in the 80th minute, before the Brazilian Lucas scored the second goal, after confronting the goalkeeper from a pass from the Algerian Sufyan Hani in the 90th + 7th minute, giving Al-Khor the advantage. Victory and a pass to the round of sixteen of the competition.
