Al Khor Club activities on the occasion of the National Sports Day
he Emiri Decree No. 80 of 2011 stipulates that Tuesday of the second week of February of each year shall be a sporting day for the State, whereby everyone is encouraged during this day to participate in sports activities with family members and colleagues. The first sports day was held in Qatar in 2012, which was dedicated to sports activities by the citizens of Qatar. The primary goal of the Sports Day is to promote sport and educate the community about ways to reduce health risks associated with a lifestyle that are less mobile, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Many state ministries and private sector companies organize many sporting events for their employees and the general public. These include: Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Olympic Committee, Aspire Zone and many other sports bodies, all of which play a prominent role in many events across Qatar. Events range from football, basketball, tennis, taekwondo, cycling and swimming, with many free sports activities and recreational competitions available to everyone. The day is also seen as an opportunity to bring communities together through sport, based on mathematical principles such as team building, unity, integration, participation, fitness and health. In addition to numerous sporting activities throughout the country, the UAE Sports Day also focuses on Qatari culture through the traditional rowing boat tournament, which serves as a reminder of Qatar's sporting heritage and its role in the country's development.
